Open positions for a postdoctoral researcher and doctoral candidates

At the QUEST Institute, they are looking for a postdoctoral researcher and doctoral candidates for projects on a transportable aluminium ion clock, optical clocks based on highly charged ions, and a multi-ion calcium clock.

The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the national metrology institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with more than 2000 employees in Braunschweig and Berlin. The QUEST Institute for Experimental Quantum Metrology is a joint institution of Leibniz University Hannover (LUH) and PTB Braunschweig. The research at the Quantum logic spectroscopy group revolves around quantum logic techniques for spectroscopy, optical clocks, and tests of fundamental physics with trapped ions. We advance quantum engineering techniques originally developed for quantum information processing to enable spectroscopy of previously inaccessible singly and highly charged ions and molecules with unprecedented accuracy. Through comparison of optical clocks, we can put bounds on possible variations of fundamental constants, dark matter models and test Einstein’s theory of relativity. Transportable optical clocks can be used to determine height differences between distant locations with centimetre accuracy, enabling applications in geodesy and earth observation.

We are looking for highly motivated and talented students and PostDocs with a physics degree from all over the world for our projects on a transportable aluminium ion clock, optical clocks based on highly charged ions, and a multi-ion calcium clock.
