High-accuracy trapped-ion Coulomb crystal optical clocks

Postdoc position

We operate a new generation of optical clocks based on trapped-ion Coulomb crystals.  Beyond clock characterization and the investigation of novel multi-ensemble clock protocols, we use the high stability and accuracy for tests of fundamental physics. Currently, the In^+ clock has an overall systematic uncertainty in the low 10^-18 range. Near-term research directions include advanced laser cooling techniques for Coulomb crystals to push relative uncertainties and the resolution of time dilation shifts to 10^-19 and beyond.
