The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has awarded one of this year’s Alexander von Humboldt Professorships to Prof. Dr. Robert Raußendorf. From summer 2023, he will teach and conduct research at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Leibniz University Hannover. The internationally recognised expert in theoretical physics specialises in quantum information theory and currently works at the University of British Columbia, Canada. .
The Humboldt Professorship aims to attract leading researchers from all disciplines currently working abroad as well as to increase the appeal of Germany as a science location. Researchers working in theoretical disciplines like Prof. Dr. Robert Raußendorf receive 3.5 million euros of funding over a period of five years.
Prof. Raußendorf is regarded as one of the few experts in the field of quantum information technology worldwide. His expertise in the fields of quantum computing, quantum error correction, fault tolerance and fundamental physics will both strengthen the Cluster of Excellence QuantumFrontiers at Leibniz Universität and support the activities in Quantum Valley Lower Saxony to build the first commercially relevant quantum computer based on trapped ions.
